FOL Book Club: DuBose Heyward’s Porgy

Join the Friends of the Library for an exciting Book Club conversation with author and historian Harlan Greene, Head of Special Collections at the College of Charleston. We’ll be discussing DuBose Heyward’s novel Porgy, inspired by African American life in the Lowcountry and now known around the world. Selections of rare materials from Special Collections related to Porgy will be displayed for this event only.

This Book Club session celebrates for the return of Porgy and Bess to the Charleston stage through the Spoleto Festival USA. Beginning in May, Special Collections will display a Porgy and Bess exhibition of art and rare manuscripts in Addlestone Library. The Friends of the Library will host a public lecture and author signing for the forthcoming book Porgy and Bess: A Charleston Story in Addlestone Library on Tuesday, May 31 at 4:00pm. Get to know the story and view Porgy and Bess collection materials before the Spoleto Festival at this FOL Book Club!
